This day trip from Rome takes you first to the forgotten ancient city of Pompeii, then to the magnificent cliff-side towns of the Amalfi Coast.
We’ll depart Rome early and head directly to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. In the year 79 AD Pompeii was left frozen in time from a volcanic blast by neighbouring Mt. Vesuvius. The result was a bustling city preserved in volcanic ash for more than 1,600 years. With a local archeologist to provide you a fun and in-depth tour, you’ll visit ruins of ancient taverns, brothels, temples, and markets; some sites with the bodies of the Vesuvius’s victims frozen in the place they perished.
Next, you’ll enjoy a scenic drive down the Amalfi Coast on our way to our next destination. Depending on seasonal crowds, we’ll visit either Positano or Sorrento. There you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy sea-views, shopping, local cuisine, limoncello, and soak up some sun on Italy’s most stunning coastline.
We’ll head back to Rome in the late afternoon where you get to sit back and relax after a full day of sites, history, culture, and delicious regional food. To ensure safety and comfort, we’ll have an air-conditioned mini-coach transport us there and back.
